Υang Ming delays boxship deliveries

Container line Yang Ming Marine Transport has decided to delay taking over five 4,500 teu containerships from Taiwan's state shipbuilder CSBC.
Yang Ming would prefer the vessel deliveries to be delayed by between 10 to 16 months. The vessels were originally slated to be handed over this year after they were ordered in 2008 for $375m.

Hapag-Lloyd To Raise Rates from East Asia

Hapag-Lloyd will raise its rates on East Asia services as part of its new rate restoration program.The German ocean carrier said rates from East Asia (excludingJapan) to the Persian Gulf will go up by $400 per 20-foot container, effective April 1.
Rates on all cargo from East Asia (excluding Japan) to the Red Sea region will attract an increase of $300 per 20-foot container, starting April 1.

MSC sends more ships to Lithuania's Klaipeda port

The world's second biggest container shipping company, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), has committed more traffic to Lithuania's Klaipeda port in a move expected to divert traffic from Antwerp and Bremerhaven, reported Reuters.

Lithuanian stevedoring firm Klaipedos Smelte said it would start providing container transhipment services for privately owned, Swiss-based MSC at Klaipeda and expected volumes to grow sharply.
