Yangming Marine of Taiwan Struggles to Make Profit in 2012

yang mingYangming Marine Transport Corp., a major container shipper in Taiwan, said the third quarter will decide corporate profitability this year.
Affected by slumping freightage and rising fuel costs, Yangming posted after-tax loss of NT$3.33 per share in 2011.
Taiwan’s second-largest container shipper, Yangming posted NT$9.399 billion in after-tax losses in 2011 due to slumping freightage on European-bound routes.
The company lost NT$4 billion in the fourth quarter of last year, the worst in 2011, but fared well compared with world-class shipper in the fourth quarter of last year.
ZIM Upgrades its Asia-Black Sea service

zimZim announced a significant upgrade of its Asia–Black Sea services.Zim’s East Med/Black Sea Express Service (EMX) will add the port Odessa to its rotation. The new direct call, with improved transit time, adds a central gateway to Russia and CIS countries, in addition to the exclusive direct call in Novorossiysk.  
EMX will improve transit times from major Asian ports, including an exclusive call in Pusan.
In addition, Zim offers a new joint service, Asia-Black Sea (ABS), connecting major Asian ports with the ports of Constantza and Illichevsk, as well as the ports of Piraeus and Istanbul.
UASC takes delivery of 4th container vessel

uascUnited Arab Shipping Company (UASC) took delivery of its fourth 13,500 TEU container vessel, named “Al Ula”, at Samsung Heavy Industries’ (SHI) shipyard in Geoge, South Korea.
With an overall length of 366m, and powered by a Doosan MAN B&W main engine, the AL ULA can operate at a service speed of around 25 knots. The new ship has a capacity for 800 40ft reefer containers on deck and has three holds designed for hazardous cargoes.
