Breakbulk Southeast Asia
4-6 September 2017
Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The first Breakbulk Southeast Asia will bring together project owners, EPCs, transport and logistics professionals and others involved in the shipment of project and breakbulk cargo from around the world from 4-6 Sept. at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Located near the event’s host port, Port of Klang, Breakbulk Southeast Asia provides a new opportunity for local suppliers to connect with international firms looking to do business in this growing and development-friendly region. Billions of dollars of government investment has been allocated for mass rapid transit projects, port and airport upgrade programs, road building and industrial development on a massive scale. RM2 trillion, roughly US$447 billion, has been apportioned by the government for infrastructure development, according to a market insights study “Transporting the Region to New Heights” from London-based ITE, Breakbulk’s parent company.

Expert insight for business development

Moving project cargo is complex, expensive and labor intensive, and highly reliant on the economy, particularly oil and gas prices. This year’s event will bring together industry leaders and analysts to reveal where the market is going and identify areas of opportunity. For instance, Rolando Gächter, Regional Director IPA Asia Pacific for Independent Project Analysis, will start the conference with Capital Projects Outlook for the ASEAN.

A shippers panel will cover what they would like to see from an evolving project transport supply chain. Panelists include Pravin Rajakrishna, General Manager, Asia Pacific Transportation Operations for Caterpillar; Khalid Siddiq, Regional Category Manager Logistics for Shell and Clement Tan, Global Logistics Manager for Vantage Drilling.

The conference will also feature an insider’s look at the US$16 billion RAPID project with associated facilities costing an additional US$11 billion from Mike Schoofs, General Manager Regional Project Division, Southeast Asia, deugro and Peter Roland, Managing Director, BBC Chartering – Tokyo, along with a representative from Johor Port Berhad.

Professional training for shippers and forwarders

An integral part of every Breakbulk event is education and training. At Breakbulk Southeast Asia, we will offer a one-day course in project freight management, taught by industry veteran Peter Bouwhuis. More than 100 shippers and freight forwarders have participated in this class so far this year, including executives from Shell, ThyssenKrupp, Kiewit, Halliburton, GE Oil & Gas, Saipem and Caterpillar. Note that this workshop is included in our VIP Shipper Club membership program. For more information, contact Winnie Lee at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
